Voices supporting VOA
South and Central Asia
Before VOA was largely silenced, it was broadcasting to South and Central Asia in eight languages: Dari, Pashto, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Kurdish, Turkish, Urdu and Uzbek. The region is home to some of the world’s most restrictive media environments, including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Azerbaijan. VOA delivered trusted news to the region, undermining the censorship of repressive governments.
