TRANSCRIPT:
I grew up listening to VOA. Like many Burmese families, mine relied on VOA for accurate information when the country was shut down by the military. In a time when censorship dominated and independent voices were silenced, VOA was our window to the world. It brought us uncensored news, truthful reporting, and a sense of connections beyond the borders that confined us.
As a journalist, I understand the immense responsibility that VOA carries. VOA has never been just a media outlet. It is a symbol of a free press, of truth, and of the unwavering commitment to delivering reliable information to those who need it most. That is in my coverage, including sharing the voices of Myanmar’s women, stories of resilience, strength, and unwavering courage in the face of military oppression and human rights violations.
This is not just the loss of a news outlet. It is the silencing of a vital voice for millions who relied on it. My connection with VOA shapes who I am as a journalist and as an advocate for press freedom. I stand in solidarity with all those who recognize its value.
