TRANSCRIPT:
The silencing of the Voice of America has had an impact in our programming. Their reports allowed us to enrich our news with international stories, for example, and perspectives that we could not produce on our own. The reports of the Voice of America were always objective, highly professional, always committed to the truth, and always independent, too.
Here in Chile, we speak Spanish, of course, and receive information in Spanish. It’s so important to understand the world and what happened. We take decisions with information. So we have the information in our language, [which] is very important for us.
It’s weird what happened with the Voice of America because the U.S. always has been known for its press freedom. If you silence media like the Voice of America, you weaken the press freedom and the democracy, too. So I wish that the Voice of America continue to make a good job.
